Statistics Canada’s updated figures show that 2,798,649 non-permanent residents were living in Canada on April 1, 2026, instead of the 2,558,562 reported in June. The increase of 240,087 people, or about 9.4%, does not mean hundreds of thousands of new temporary residents suddenly entered Canada.
