Canada Opens New LMIA-Exempt Work Permit Pathway for British Professionals
Canada has introduced a new opportunity for eligible British professionals following the United Kingdom’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) . The UK’s accession protocol entered into force between Canada and the United Kingdom on September 1, 2026 , expanding access to certain CPTPP temporary-entry provisions for eligible UK citizens. For qualifying British professionals and technicians, this development can provide access to an LMIA-exempt employer-specific work permit under Canada’s International Mobility Program. The pathway may be relevant to professionals working in designated occupations, including certain positions in engineering, information technology, finance, science, architecture, business and management.
